Additional Terms Pro 1.1.2

We’re happy to announce the release of Additional Terms Pro 1.1.2, which includes an important hotfix and key compatibility updates. In this version, we addressed a specific issue related to the conditional logic of terms checkboxes and introduced enhanced support for PayPal Express. We highly recommend you update to this version to ensure the smooth operation of your WooCommerce store.

Hotfix: Conditional Logic for Variable Products

In version 1.1.2, we resolved an issue affecting variable products when terms checkboxes were restricted to display based on specific product categories, tags, or brands added to the cart. The problem was initially identified when a terms checkbox, set to appear only if a product from certain categories or tags was added to the cart, failed to display at checkout. This issue was particularly relevant when variable products were involved.

A huge thank you to one of our customers who reported this issue, enabling us to address it quickly. Our development team immediately investigated and resolved the problem for this user, and the fix is now available in the update.

New Compatibility: PayPal Express Checkout

One of the key improvements in Additional Terms Pro 1.1.2 is its newly introduced compatibility with PayPal Express Checkout. In previous versions, the required terms checkbox might not have behaved as expected when PayPal Express was used for checkout, allowing customers to bypass the terms agreement process.

With this update, if you have configured your Additional Terms to be required, the system will now prevent customers from completing their checkout through PayPal Express without checking the required checkbox. This ensures that all customers, regardless of their payment method, must acknowledge your terms before finalizing their purchase.

Ongoing Work: Google Pay and Apple Pay Compatibility

We are aware of user requests to ensure that the additional terms functionality extends to Google Pay and Apple Pay. However, due to the way these payment methods streamline the checkout process, bypassing several standard WooCommerce fields (including custom terms checkboxes), enforcing terms agreements through these payment gateways presents a unique challenge.

As of now, it is not technically feasible to enforce the additional terms checkboxes directly within Google Pay or Apple Pay’s checkout flows. However, we’re actively exploring alternative solutions to better support these popular payment methods.

While we work on a more permanent solution for Google Pay and Apple Pay, we recommend using a modal popup to display your terms and policies to customers before they proceed with checkout. This can be configured easily through the plugin:

  1. Edit the Terms checkbox.
  2. Set the Link Action to “Open in Modal.”
  3. Check the Auto Show Content option to display the terms and conditions when users enter the checkout page.
  4. Additionally, you can configure the terms checkbox to be Checked by default.

This ensures that users are aware of and agree to your terms before completing their purchase, even if using expedited checkout methods like Google Pay or Apple Pay.
