Additional Terms Pro has always helped WooCommerce stores show important agreements clearly and keep a record of each customer’s choice.

Version 1.3.2 adds a practical new use for optional checkboxes. You can offer paid services at Cart or Checkout, make their cost clear before a customer selects them, and keep the fee details with the related order record.

It also adds more Smart Tags for Terms Text and a new integration with Store Vacation for WooCommerce.

Here’s what’s new.

Offer Optional Paid Checkout Services

An optional checkbox can now add a fee when a customer selects it. You can set a fixed amount for services with a known price, such as $1.50 for gift wrapping. You can also use a percentage-based fee when the cost should adjust with the order value, such as order protection.

Each fee can use your WooCommerce tax settings. Select whether it is taxable, then choose the appropriate tax class when needed. This gives store owners a simple way to offer a useful extra without increasing every customer’s order total. A customer who wants the service can add it. Everyone else can continue with their normal order.

Optional checkout fees are best used for paid services that customers actively choose. Keep them separate from required legal, policy, or compliance acknowledgements so the checkout remains clear. If you are placing an optional checkbox before checkout, our guide on adding terms checkboxes to the Cart page explains the available Cart and Checkout placements.

Five Practical Uses for Optional Fees

The right fee should have a clear purpose and a clear benefit for the customer.

Optional fees can protect margin where a service has a real cost. They also give customers more choice, which is often better than building the cost into every order.

Show the Exact Fee Before the Customer Agrees

Customers should know the cost before they select a paid option. The new Fee Amount Smart Tag {{fee_amount}} lets you insert the current fee directly into the checkbox label. This is especially helpful for percentage-based fees, where the amount can change with the order.

For example, an eco-friendly packaging option could say:

The selected optional service is added clearly to the cart total.

The customer sees the amount in the checkbox text, selects the service if they want it, and then sees the fee in the Cart or Checkout totals.

That keeps the choice straightforward and gives the customer the information they need at the point of decision.

Keep Fee Details With Each WooCommerce Order

When a customer selects a checkbox with a fee, Additional Terms Pro saves the charged amount alongside the acceptance record.

Review the accepted checkbox and charged fee from the WooCommerce order screen.

Store managers can review the accepted checkbox, its placement, and the fee charged from the Additional Terms panel on the WooCommerce order screen. The selected fee also appears in the customer’s order totals.

Fee details can be included in:

This is useful when an order includes an extra service that needs a clear record after checkout.

Use Smart Tags for More Relevant Text

Terms Text often needs a little context. The new Smart Tags let you add that context without manually updating every checkbox when your store details or linked pages change.

Terms page details
Insert the terms page link, title, or URL when customers need access to the full agreement.

Fee and checkbox details
Use the checkbox name and Fee Amount to identify the option and show its charge clearly.

Store details
Add your site name, site URL, or admin email address where the checkbox needs current store information.

Customer details
Use the customer name or username when personalised wording is appropriate.

Together, these options make it easier to keep checkbox text accurate, clear, and reusable across your store.

A New Integration With Store Vacation

Store Vacation for WooCommerce is a plugin for scheduling closures, managing store availability, and controlling what customers can do while your store is away. Additional Terms Pro 1.3.2 now integrates with Store Vacation through a new Store Vacation condition rule.

This lets you show an Additional Terms checkbox only when your store matches a selected Store Vacation state. You can target an active vacation closure, a scheduled vacation, a weekly closing period, outside opening hours, Force Close, or a closure where checkout remains available.

Show a checkbox only when a selected Store Vacation state applies.

That last option is particularly useful for stores that continue taking orders during a closure. A site notice can be easy to overlook. A checkbox gives customers a direct acknowledgement before they place an order.

For example:

I understand that orders placed during the current store closure will be processed after the date shown in the delivery notice.

The condition can support any acknowledgement that should appear only while a selected Store Vacation state applies. Keep the wording specific to your store’s current policy and customer notice.
