Additional Terms Pro 1.3.1 adds several practical improvements to the way you create, display, and record customer agreements in WooCommerce.

You can now start with ready-made text templates, show a checkbox only when selected coupons are applied, include the linked terms page title in checkout errors, and optionally record IP and device information with each acceptance.

Here’s what’s new.

Start Faster With Ready-Made Templates

Creating a new terms checkbox often begins with the same questions: What should the checkbox say? How should the error message be written? Is the wording clear enough for customers?

Additional Terms Pro 1.3.1 makes that easier with ready-made templates for the Terms Text and Error Message fields.

The templates provide suggested wording for common agreements, including terms and conditions, privacy policies, age confirmation, final-sale purchases, delivery requirements, and subscription terms.

They are designed to give you a useful starting point. You can insert a template, adjust the wording to match your store, and save it without writing everything from scratch.

To use one, open a new or existing terms item under WooCommerce > Settings > Additional Terms > Terms. Select Templates from the Terms Text or Error Message toolbar, choose an option, and select Use this.

Selecting a template replaces the current content of that field, so review any existing text before applying a different one.

New terms items also include suggested wording by default. Existing terms are not changed when you update the plugin.

Templates are especially useful when you regularly create agreements for different products, promotions, or checkout situations. They also make it easier to keep the wording across your store consistent.

The supplied text is only a starting point and should be reviewed to make sure it fits your policies and requirements.

You can also use these templates when creating agreements for the Cart page. See our guide on adding terms checkboxes to the WooCommerce Cart page for practical examples.

Make Checkout Errors More Specific

A generic message such as “Please accept the required terms” may be enough when there is only one checkbox. It becomes less helpful when customers need to accept several different agreements.

Version 1.3.1 lets you use the {{additional-terms}} smart tag inside the Error Message field.

In an error message, the smart tag displays the title of the linked terms page as plain text.

For example, you can enter:

Please read and accept {{additional-terms}} before placing your order.

If the linked page is named Final Sale Terms, the customer sees:

Please read and accept Final Sale Terms before placing your order.

This makes it much clearer which agreement still needs attention. It also saves you from manually repeating the linked page title in every error message.

If the page title changes later, the error message will use the updated title automatically.

Show Agreements When Specific Coupons Are Applied

Discounts and promotions sometimes come with conditions that do not apply to regular orders.

A final-sale coupon might remove the right to return an item. A partner discount may have separate eligibility rules. A limited-time campaign might require customers to accept specific purchase conditions.

Showing those terms on every order would add unnecessary clutter to the Cart or Checkout page.

The new Applied Coupons condition solves this by displaying a terms checkbox only when one or more selected coupon codes are active in the customer’s cart.

For example, suppose your store has a FINALSALE coupon. You could create a required checkbox that says:

I understand that products purchased with this promotion are final sale and cannot be returned.

After assigning the FINALSALE coupon to the condition, the checkbox appears whenever that code is used. If the coupon is removed, the agreement disappears as well.

The condition can be useful for:

To configure it, edit a terms item, add an Applied Coupons rule under Conditions, and select the coupon codes that should trigger the checkbox.

You can also combine coupon rules with the plugin’s other conditions.

For example, an agreement could appear only when a particular coupon is applied and the cart contains a selected product. You could also limit it by product category, billing location, or payment gateway.

This keeps promotional terms relevant to the customer’s actual order instead of showing the same notice to everyone.

Add Smarter Terms to WooCommerce

Add More Context to Consent Records

Additional Terms Pro already records which agreements a customer accepted and stores that information with the WooCommerce order.

Version 1.3.1 adds an optional Consent IP & Device Log for stores that need more technical context with those records.

When enabled, the consent evidence can include:

The IP address and user agent are saved with the order. The plugin uses the user agent to identify the customer’s device, browser, and operating system, then displays the information in a separate Consent Evidence panel on the admin order screen.

This can give you a more complete record when reviewing a customer enquiry, checking the details of an order, or investigating a dispute.

It may be particularly useful for stores selling subscriptions, personalized products, digital services, age-restricted products, or items with special return conditions.

The feature is optional and disabled by default.

Enable Consent Evidence Logging

To enable it:

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Additional Terms > Misc.
  2. Enable Admin Acceptance Summary.
  3. Enable Consent IP & Device Log.
  4. Select Save changes.

The evidence is recorded when a new acceptance is saved. Turning the feature on does not add technical information to older orders because that data was not collected at the time.

Include Consent Evidence in CSV Exports

When Consent IP & Device Log is enabled, acceptance CSV exports can also include the recorded IP address, device, browser, operating system, and user agent.

This makes it easier to review consent records outside WordPress or keep them with your other order documentation.

The export can bring together the order details, customer information, accepted terms, linked terms page, acceptance time, and available consent evidence in one file.

Review Your Privacy Practices Before Enabling It

IP addresses and user-agent information may be treated as personal data under privacy laws that apply to your store or customers.

Before enabling Consent IP & Device Log, review why you need the information, who can access it, how long it will be retained, and whether your privacy policy explains its collection.

Our guide on making a WooCommerce store compliant with CCPA and CPRA covers related considerations around customer consent, privacy notices, and data retention.

Additional Terms Pro provides the tools to record this evidence, but each store owner is responsible for deciding whether collecting it is appropriate.

Update to Additional Terms Pro 1.3.1

Additional Terms Pro 1.3.1 makes it easier to create agreements and show them only when they are relevant.

Ready-made templates reduce setup time. The Applied Coupons condition gives you more control over promotional terms. Improved smart-tag support makes checkout errors clearer, while the optional Consent IP & Device Log adds more context to customer acceptance records.

Update Additional Terms Pro from your WordPress dashboard to start using the new features.
